The big news at Savvy is that we will be teaching both the Scratch and Dig class
and the Optics Drawings class at Photonics West this year! Sign up early to
reserve a spot. Just click on the links to the left to go straight to the course
description on the SPIE website. These are great classes, and we only offer them
a few times a year!
(If you miss it, though, fear not: Savvy Optics also provides On-site Training)

Back in October, Dave presented a paper on Mid-Spatial Frequency ripple at
OSA's Optical Fabrication and Testing meeting in Rochester NY. The paper was
a result of a joint project between Dave Aikens of Savvy Optics, Jessica DeGroote
Nelson of Optimax, and Rich Youngworth of Light Capture, Inc. The presentation
walks you through the process of identifying MSF ripple, defining the spatial
frequencies of interest (and differentiating ripple from figure and roughness),
determining an acceptable amplitude based on tolerancing, and then specifying it
on an optical drawing. I've added a link to the paper on the left, as well as on the
"home" page.

Wow! That was fast. In three days, the Scratch/Dig and ISO 10110 classes in February
sold out. MCC is considering adding more sessions, so call now to get on their wait list.
This is a great opportunity for Rochester and NY residents to take the classes locally
and at a reduced cost.

The classes in Rochester went great. Lots of fun to be had by all. Check out the article
in RRPC's Newsletter for the details

The Scratch/Dig class and the ISO 10110 class have both been accepted for OptiFab.
This is a great conference, and I'm really pleased to be invited to teach both courses
there. Be sure to sign up early; I'm hoping for another sellout crowd.
I'll also be there presenting the latest results on the work CCDMetrix and Savvy Optics
have been doing on software assisted scratch inspection. Be sure to come by the
Exhibit Hall at 5:00 on Wednesday to hear the great results we're seeing!

The accumulation and concentration rules for MIL-PRF-13830B and OP1.002:2009 can
be a real pain to keep track of. I've loaded it all into a handy-dandy spreadhseet. You'll
need Excel 2007 to run it.
You are welcome to try it out, but under the usual "as-is and without warranty" rules for
stuff you download for free. Use the "contact us" tab to let me know what you think of it!

For the third month in a row, I've written an article for NY Photonics' Rochester Newsletter.

This month's topic is Surface Roughness; the forgotten specification
